After much existential hemming and hawing, JL Jamieson, the author of Dishing Politics, initially refused to provide an autobiographical blurb for this book.  She argued that she could not summarize her true essence and inner persona in a measly paragraph and that at any rate, this book was most likely going to cook up enough trouble without having her personal information revealed to the world.

Indeed, after reviewing the smear tactics and dirty tricks currently in vogue in Washington, employed by both Republicans and Democrats alike as a means of reprisal for even the slightest criticism, the author even toyed with the idea of publishing Dishing Politics under a pseudonym.  She probably would have done so, but her lawyers and counselors advised against it, insisting that the proposed pen names of Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-Jill or Jacques Chirac would most likely NOT help deflect future criticism or protect the author against reprisals.

Upon learning the unfortunate news that neither the FBI, nor the Library of Congress offers a writers protection program in which political and culinary satirists are provided with new identities, the author then began considering other options, including some plastic surgery which had nothing at all to do with protecting her identity but just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Before going under the knife, however, her legal advisors stepped in once again to inform her that anonymity might not be the safest strategy as there is a pretty good chance that upon publication of Dishing Politics, some of the roasted political authorities might become boiling mad and attempt to declare the author a “literary or culinary enemy combatant”, whisking her away to a foreign detainment center for interrogation and internment with no recourse to the Courts.

The author then inquired as to whether the term  “literary or culinary enemy combatant” was established in the Patriot Act, at which point her bevy of over-paid and over-fed lawyers informed her that no one really knows for sure, as the Patriot Act encompasses a bazillion or so pages of really small font and no one has actually read it.

At that point, JL Jamieson was too mentally distraught to continue objecting and decided to prepare an autobiographical plea.  The first draft simply read:

“I am an American citizen, born in upstate New York, raised in Kentucky and educated at Georgetown University and at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy.  In retribution for my culinary musings, I fear that I may be being held against my will.  Send HELP.  Hurry!”

Needless to say, her editors didn’t particularly care for this version and sent her back to the drawing board.

After months of fruitless efforts and recognizing that no one really particularly cares about the author’s background, it was decided -under the advisement and counsel of many therapists and lawyers - to keep the information about the author to a minimum.  As such, the author only wishes to disclose the following:

JL Jamieson currently resides in south Florida, although she recognizes that she might be relocating to Gitmo soon after Dishing Politics is published.  She is a renowned and respected investment banker and international development consultant who has lived and worked in dozens of countries throughout the world while advising governments and non-governmental authorities on project finance, infrastructure development and anti-corruption initiatives.  Although not her only publication, Dishing Politics is her first foray into the heretofore unexplored literary genre of “food for thought” and “culinary inspired political satire”.

The author wishes you peace, joy, love and happiness and sincerely hopes you enjoy the book.  Keep smiling and never stop evolving!
